Routine (yearly) dental cleaning is of the best ways to keep your pet healthy. Periodontal disease is caused by plaque (bacteria), which starts as a thin film on the teeth (Stage I). If left untreated, Stage I periodontal diseases progresses to gingivitis, tooth decay, root abscessation, and bone infection.
Signs of periodontal disease include bad breath (halitosis), discolored teeth, oral pain and difficulty chewing. Chronic periodontal disease can result have systemic effects, adversely affecting the kidney, liver and heart.
